Application Overview

The B-UV-S evaluates the relative durability of nonmetallic materials such as paints, coatings and plastics through accelerated aging tests involving light and water exposure. It is especially suitable for observing physical deterioration in particularly durable materials, such as loss of gloss, fading, hazing, loss of strength, chalking, cracking, blistering and embrittlement. It is also suitable for the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.

Applications in the Food / Pharmaceutical Industries

Meets ICH-Q1B photostability testing requirements for new drug substances and new drug products: the near-UV fluorescent lamp emits light in the 320~400nm range, with maximum energy emission at 350~370nm. Samples should be exposed to cool white light of at least 1.2×106Lux·hr and near-UV energy of at least 200w·hr, allowing direct comparison of drug substance and formulation stability;

Applications in the Cosmetics Industry

Verifies the UV shielding effectiveness of cosmetics and plays an essential role in rapidly evaluating material aging resistance, screening or improving new and existing formulations, and monitoring product quality. Simple to operate, use and maintain;

Product Features

  • The exterior is made of coated cold-rolled steel, and the chamber uses SUS304 stainless steel;
  • The 4.3-inch touchscreen has a menu-based interface that is easy to understand, observe and operate;
  • Irradiance, temperature, humidity and spray cycles can be set and displayed directly;
  • Uses multiple 20W UV lamp tubes. Compared with other lamp types, they provide stable quality, and their spectral power distribution does not deteriorate as the lamps age. Service life reaches 5000 hours;
  • The B-UV-S provides a 3-nozzle sample spray system to ensure uniform spraying of samples on the holder;
  • Radiation intensity is adjusted manually using an optional UV irradiance meter;
  • Self-regulation of black-panel temperature according to test setpoints meets user requirements for light exposure, spraying, temperature and other aging tests;
  • Equipped with 4 standard specimen holders of 70*150mm, allowing samples to be tested from all directions and accommodating irregularly shaped samples;

As with other laboratory accelerated tests, B-UV test results cannot replace natural exposure in determining the actual service life of materials. B-UV products provide comparative test conditions. UV radiation is the principal light-related factor reducing the durability of outdoor products, while fluorescent lamp tubes have a relatively stable spectral energy distribution. UV aging test chambers are therefore widely used for weathering tests because they are fast, convenient and economical. As a basic model, the B-UV is particularly suitable for experiments with limited budgets.
