Density Cups
A density cup has also been described as a liquid Pycnometer.
Density is the weight per unit volume at a specified temperature.
Use a cylindrical shape which provides a large open for easy filling, emptying and cleaning.
The tight fitted stainless steel covers have an upward slope to a small hole in the center to allow
excess sample material to be expelled without entrapping air bubbles, which increase accuracy.
An ISO standard cup is a popular design globally.
Procedure
Clean density cup empty and record weight.
Temper density cup and test liquid.
Fill density cup.
Put cover on without tilting and avoid bubbles.
Remove overflowing liquid carefully.
Weight filled density cup and calculate density.
